Frequently Asked Questions
How much do electric vehicle chargers cost?
Our typical Level 2 charger package of 2 networked chargers and software is around $4,000. When adding in the electrical work, installation, and traffic devices investment is between $8,000 to $16,000 on average.
Can I make money with EV charging?
Yes! EV charging can make money and provide a good return on your investment. How much depends on location and demand. The key thing is to start out with realistic goals and expectations.
We have host properties that are generating over $450 per month per charger on level 2 charging. The numbers are even higher for locations that fit a DC charging scenario like a convenience store.
How much trouble are EV chargers to operate?
That depends on your provider and the program you choose. With us, they are no trouble at all for our hosts because we handle everything.
You own them, we run them, your profit from them.
Will you install chargers for free at my location?
We offer a Hybrid Revenue Share model instead of the full Free Installation model.
Our model allows us to partner with you and help lower the investment in exchange for a portion of the revenue generated. We created this model to provide the host with a proper level of control of the system.
The fully free model may seem like a great option. You will be giving up control of the system including things like customer service, pricing, who can use them, how and when they get repaired and other things. This model can work for the right circumstances but recommend careful consideration.
Nothing is really Free!
What's the difference between Level2 and Fast Chargers?
Level 2 chargers are units that deliver AC power to the vehicle. They typically add 30 to 60 miles per hour of charging. DC fast chargers are units that deliver DC power direct to the battery. This allows them to charge the vehicle at much faster speeds. A DC fast charger will add about 300 to 600 miles per hour of charge.
Keep in mind, faster is not always better.
Should I install Level 2 or DC chargers?
Deciding on the right solution for a property has to consider many variables. One of the first things to figure out is who are your target users and how long are they typically at your property. Quick stops need DC charging and longer stays need level 2 charging. DC charging systems are considerably more expensive so planning is important.
The key is to match the right solution that will allow you to hit your goals and maximize your ROI.
How do I control who uses the chargers and how they pay?
Access control is key component of your charging system. This allows you to make sure the right people use your chargers. There are many ways to control access including RFID cards, integration to your existing systems, and EC charger management software are the main ones.
Understanding what works for your property can help you avoid paying for something you don't really need.
Who handles the user questions and concerns?
The Stay-N-Charge model was designed to make sure your users were the #1 priority. We provide a 24/7 US based help desk that is available to help your users. Our team is there to support your users with everything related to your charging solution and beyond. We even train our team on the different vehicles to help people know how the vehicle works.
